10 Simple Bookmark Ideas You Can Make Today

Published on 8 January, 2025  By: Meera

There’s not a lot to a bookmark, is there? It’s just a marker for the page you’ve left off at. But, it does add to the excitement of reading more.

Anything can be a bookmark – well, almost. Here is a list of 10 simple yet very adorable bookmark ideas that you can make today using things you already have, or can collect around you:

1. Teabag wrappers

The great thing about teabag wrappers is that they retain the scent of the tea for a long time. They make the perfect bookmarks.

2. Dried leaves

How about a leaf from a walk in October?

3. Tickets or receipts

You can use tickets from concerts, theaters, or trips, which bring back memories every time you open your book. Or what about a receipt from a coffee machine you bought, or that book?

4. Origami hearts

These simple and exhaustingly adorable bookmarks can be made in just 2 minutes! They’re so cute! Learn how to make them here: Easy heart bookmark: A fun craft for bookworms.

5. Magazine clippings

You can cut out inspirational quotes or images that you like from magazines for a more eclectic bookmark.

6. Flowers

These won’t remain fresh for a while but they are super cute and perfect for saving your page for the time-being.

7. A note with a reminder

A note with a quote or reminder to be kind to yourself, or prompt you to slow down can be great.

For example, if you tend to get caught up in your head a lot, you can write something like “Breathe for 6 seconds, exhale for 6.” So, when you open your book, you can be guided to set a calm theme in your reading indulgence (if that’s what you need).

8. Photography

Photos of friends, your pet, a loved one, a place you want to visit (or have visited) can make you excited or smile when you open your book.

Also consider photos or artwork from kids – if you have children or grandchildren, their artwork makes a great, personalised bookmark.

9. Clothes tags

Some clothes tags are the perfect bookmarks – they’re too good to toss!

10. Little bits and bobs – like a soda can pull-tab, buttons, or paperclips.

These don’t have to have any meaning, but if you drink a can of soda at someplace special or share it with a friend, you can hold on to it as a bookmark.

Anything flat and flexible can serve as a functional bookmark, so feel free to get creative!

Happy reading, y’all. xoxo
