25 Simple Ways To Romanticise
Your Life

Published on: 31 Dec, 2024  By: Meera

What does it mean to romanticise your life?

Romaticising your life means viewing and experiencing your daily existence in a more intentional and magical light.

We all get caught up in the hustle and bustle or chaos of work, family, and other life situations. However, a lot of life’s beauty and little joys slip through the cracks of that hectic nature.

What if we just slow down, seize the gears of the chaos, and look around, we might see that the world is already injected with magic.

It’s not always the big milestones and successes that makes life special – it’s the little things, the simple pleasures that are embedded in the world around us, like cherishing a simple cup of coffee, drifting softly into sleep over the sounds of conversations, a big warm hug, or a long morning walk.

It’s about using our senses, being present, and observing the little things has a lot to offer us. And, the great thing is that it’s easy to collect these simple trinkets of pleasure.

25 simple ways to romanticise your everyday life

1. Wear a perfume or a fragrance that you can’t get enough of (some scents are just so darn good! They transcend you to a different place.)

2. Make a playlist of soft songs like a dark academia, or chill Animal Crossing playlist.

3. Bake goodies more often like cinnamon rolls, a simple chocolate cake, or blueberry muffins (without a special occasion).

4. Plan solo dates – go to a cafe, the museum, sit at a park and drink tea or coffee from a thermos, or go to a pottery class. You can write each activity on pieces of paper, put ’em in a jar and pick out one every week.

5. Cozy up in bed and read a book (perhaps, paired with a cup of tea).

6. Solve newspaper puzzles at the breakfast table.

7. Watch the crimson sunrise or the lilac sunset.

8. Pay notice to the beautiful colours around you – red cars, sweaters, and lips; lime green grass and emerald eyes, cobalt blue skies, and the city road speckled with white lights on a night drive, or red brake lights through the rain.

9. Use your sense of smell to appreciate colognes, fresh flowers, freshly baked bread, brewed coffee filling the kitchen, or the pages of a new book.

10. Lay out a few outfits and accessories that make you feel like a princess, or a hottie (or just confident) and incorporate them into your daily look. It could be something as simple as adding hoop earrings, a red lipstick, a cap, or bucket hat.

11. Cozy up indoors on rainy days by wearing a big sweater, lighting a candle, drinking a coffee, or watching a movie.

12. Buy yourself nice things like flowers, books, make-up, or good quality coffee.

13. Plant a plant and watch it spring to life as the days and weeks go by, and see it as a representation of your own growth, as you nurture it with what it needs. (And, if it dies, don’t be bummed out. Ask yourself what you could’ve done differently, or did it die because of a change in the season? There is a time to shed as there is a time to spring.)

14. Hang a birdhouse outside your window and put seeds. Watch the birds visit.

15. Hang a wind chime outside and listen to the calming sounds when the wind blows.

16. Put fairy lights in your garden or bedroom for a magical touch.

17. Take warm evening baths. Add fragrances and Epsom salts to the water for deeper relaxation.

18. Compliment a stranger about something you like about them (their hair, performance, art). Notice their lit eyes and broadened smile.

19. Write a handwritten letter to a friend, sibling, or yourself about your appreciation of your relationship or something heartfelt you’d like to share.

20. Write your grocery list on paper.

21. Write postcards to distant friends or family.

22. Paint a mug and drink tea from it often (or give it to a friend).

23. Have a mini picnic with a friend in the backyard or at the park.

24. Appreciate the imperfections around you like a flinted cup, a tilted tree, a shirt that has holes or paint stains or a missing button, and a book with yellowed pages.

25. Indulge in deep conversations with older folks. Listen to their experiences, ask for advice, ask what they’d do differently if they could go back in time, and what they wouldn’t change.

Conclusion

It’s so easy to get caught up in the big picture. But, let’s realise that we paint a more magical and fulfilling image by immersing ourselves in simple pleasures. There is magic all around us and life can be enchanting.

We won’t always have good days or good phases, but part of romanticising life is seeing beauty even through the rough patches. It’s a subtle act of self-care and a way of cherishing another day of life.
