Add-ins
- salt to taste
- maple/ date/ agave syrup or sweetener of choice
- pumpkin spice
- cinnamon
- vanilla extract
- coconut oil
Oven-roast the peanuts
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (180 degrees Celsius).
Spread the raw peanuts evenly across a baking sheet and roast in the oven for 15 - 20 minutes, or until they are browned to your liking.
Blend
Add the peanuts to a food processor or blender, along with any optional add-ins. Blend for 5 minutes or until smooth, while stopping in between to scrape down the sides with a spatula. A chunky mass will form before becoming smooth - keep going. Give your food processor or blender a few breaks between blending, if needed.
Your homemade peanut butter is ready to be used! Transfer to an air-tight storage container. Keep it in the pantry like you would with store-bought peanut butter.
- *If you have pre-roasted peanuts in a can, you can skip to blending - just toss 'em in the blender/ processor and blend, blend, blend...
- If you have peanuts with skin, you don't have to remove them. They add so much flavour!
- You can roast these peanuts on the stove: In a frypan or skillet, dry-roast the peanuts on medium-high heat for 7-10 minutes, or until browned and fragrant. Keep the peanuts moving with a spoon to avoid burning. Then, continue with the recipe.
- The peanuts take a much shorter time to blend while they are warm, but they will still blend wonderfully if they are cooled - just with a little more time.
- Because this peanut butter has no emulsifier, the oils tend to separate from the solids after some time. Whenever this happens, use a butter knife or a spoon to stir everything together before using.
