- raw or pre-roasted almonds*
- salt to taste (optional)
Roast: In an oven pre-heated at 350 degrees Fahrenheit (180 degrees Celsius), roast the raw almonds for 15-20 minutes.
Blend: In a blender/ food processor, blend for 5 minutes or until smooth, while stopping in between to scrape down the sides with a spatula. A chunky mass will form before becoming smooth – keep going. Give your food processor or blender a few breaks between blending, if needed.
Enjoy: Your homemade almond butter is ready to be used! Enjoy slathered on toast (with banana slices and a sprinkle of cinnamon), on oatmeal, smoothie bowls, or in baked goodies.
Store: Transfer to an air-tight storage container. Keep it in the pantry like you would with store-bought almond/ peanut butter.
- *If you have pre-roasted almonds in a can, you can skip to blending – just toss ’em in the blender/ processor and blend, blend, blend… or roast them for 5-7 minutes in the oven to heat them up.
- The almonds take a much shorter time to blend while they are warm, but they will still blend wonderfully if they are cooled – just with a little more time.
- Because this almond butter has no emulsifier, the oils tend to separate from the solids after some time. Whenever this happens, use a butter knife or a spoon to stir everything together before using.
